Come fly with me ...
I’ve been considering, if I was a superhero ... what kind of superhero would I be? What would be my ideal superpower?
Now, Green Lantern’s ring is pretty fantastic. With that he can fly, create any object he can imagine, clothe himself, etc. However, having all of those powers at once gives him a bit of an unfair advantage. Same goes for Superman for this one.
I’m trying to imagine if I had just one superpower (think Heroes, Misfits, or early Smallville) what that power would be.
I’ve always thought invisibility would be fun. Perhaps it’s just the curious journalist in me, but it would certainly be great to get backstage of any concert or political event. Also, if journalism doesn’t work out, I can always switch to my back-up career: International super-spy.
However, invisibility doesn’t really help in situations where I wouldn’t have to be invisible, and the clothing issue (do the clothes turn invisible as well, or would I have to change clothes constantly?) just seems too finicky in most situations.
Super strength would certainly be fun. As a guy who’s never been exactly “buff,” I don’t think I’d mind being able to bench press a pick-up truck. In terms of crime fighting, super strength would certainly come in handy for putting the criminals behind bars. It has a wide range of potential in most situations, and I’m sure it’s just plain fun to see the look on people’s faces when someone stops a train with their bare hands.
However, super-strength isn’t as versatile and honestly I’m afraid it would go to my head.
A superior intellect could be great. Not only would I be able to solve many of the world’s problems such as disease and famine, but I would also finally understand math!
However, I think I have a pretty good head on my shoulders as it is, and there are some things the world has to work out on its own.
I believe the power that I would cherish more than anything other is the ability to fly. It’s always been one of mankind’s greatest dreams to soar through the sky among the birds, that has been achieved to a certain degree with airplanes, but boy would it be nice to skip those lines in customs.
I would have total freedom, I could travel to every part of the world (which has always been one of my personal dreams) and meet people from every walk of life. I could still train my mind and body, and even be slightly invisible (you’d be surprised how many people never look up) but flying is a one of a kind power.
Well, that’s my nerd-out for the week.
