Christine Lavin and Don White at 6OTS: “A Funny, Funny 2-fer” of comedy and song
OXFORD – Saturday, Feb. 18, at 7:30 p.m., 6 On The Square (6OTS) is proud to present two of the funniest entertainers on today’s music scene, Christine Lavin and Don White. She is a major force in folk/pop music. He is a droll comic master of song-anecdotes. Together, Lavin and White are a “funny, funny 2-fer” of comedy and song! As is the tradition, fans and followers of Christine can come to knit before the show, but that’s optional.
Christine Lavin's smart and funny songs nail our lives and foibles on the head! As a songwriter, she brings shrewd insight, evocative detail, and laser-keen wit to what she sees around her. Christine combines hilarious stories of people, events, near disasters and minor miracles that have defined her life, and music. Her list of credits and accomplishments are as long as your arm.
Christine is an award winning singer/songwriter/guitarist/recording artist. Her singing style has been compared to the Indigo Girls, Sarah McLachlin, and Tom Lehrer. She has been a major force in the contemporary music world for over two decades with 30 albums to her credit, 20 of them solo. Her latest is Cold Pizza For Breakfast. Christine has appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America, NBC’s The Today Show, and was featured on CBS’s Sunday Morning, CNN, and NPR’s Weekend Edition. She’s won multiple music awards including five ASCAP Composer Awards and the NYC Singer/Songwriter of 2001 (Backstage Magazine).
Don White is also a singer/songwriter/guitarist/and recording artist. He has six albums, a book of short stories and a DVD titled, “Family Man – Don White Live”. He learned and honed his art of songwriting and performing in the trenches: often doing nine shows a week at Catch a Rising Star over two and a half years. Studying the masters who passed though that fabled club, Don took his genuine gift for personal anecdotal comedy, and developed it into his own infectious brand of humor and pathos that rivets the crowd wherever he plays.
Robin Vaughan of The Boston Herald wrote, “Between some sweetly amusing songs, White told tales of classic American family life that had the audience screaming with laughter …”
Don illuminates the human experience though his writing and performing, and he doesn’t have to go far. He simply stays at home with his feet firmly planted in blue-collar reality to mine comic gold. Don is a master of perfectly timed, amusing sketches-turned songs, morphing the White household into a very funny, but lovingly truthful, on-stage biopic. Whether he is singing, his funny and often touching songs like “How to Get Your Kids to Leave Home,” “Be 16 With Me” and “Rascal”; speaking; or setting up the sneakiest punch line of the night, Don has the hearts of his audience. They know they have his.
These two super talented singer-songwriters, each in their own way, have extracted emotional truth with their wit, insight and irreverence. Performers Christine and Don will make for two-hours of side-splitting laughs. Purchase tickets online at the discounted price of $20 (plus $2 on-line ticket surcharge) until the date of the performance; $25 at the door.
