Scouts plan Pinewood Derby for March 11
NORWICH – The Chenango District Pinewood Derby will take place at noon on March 11 at the VFW on East Main Street in Norwich.
Cub Scouts from around the county will be competing in five different divisions for first place trophies and second and third place ribbons. All area cub scouts are encouraged to participate and the event will be open to the public.
According to District Commissioner George Blood, anyone who wants to support their local cub scouts is encouraged to attend.
As an added attraction, Rocky (Jim) Rothwell, a race car driver from Plymouth, will be signing autographs, answering questions and may bring his race car, weather permitting.
“We’re hoping for a big turnout this year. It’s the first time in a while that the district is hosting the event,” said Blood. “We hope to see you all there on race day!”
Refreshments will be sold at the event to off-set the cost of the derby, said Blood. Scouts can also participate in the Style Derby for best looking car and most scout spirit car. The track will be provided by Pack 62 of Norwich.
Participation will cost $6 per person and registration can be completed ahead of time or at the door.
For more information or to register, contact Blood at 334-4950 during the day or 334-4892 in the evening. Information can also be received via e-mail by contacting tanseyauto@frontiernet.net.
