Two sentenced in County Court, guilty plea in assault case

NORWICH – A pair of admitted felons were sentenced Friday in County Court while another individual pleaded guilty to the first charge of his grand jury indictment, receiving six months in the Chenango County Correctional Facility and five years probation.

• Jesse Davis, 30, of Binghamton, pleaded guilty to second degree assault – a class B felony – and agreed to serve six months in the Chenango County Correctional Facility with credit for time served, in addition to five years probation. Davis was released pending his sentencing – adjourned to March 5 – and could face up to seven years in state prison if he were to violate the conditions of his release.
In July of 2011, Davis was charged with assault with intent to cause serious physical injury and second degree strangulation – both class D felonies – following an investigation into a domestic dispute in the Town of Greene. Judge Sullivan stressed that Davis is not to consume any alcohol, controlled substances or marijuana in the weeks leading up to his sentencing and reminded him that if he doesn’t “follow the rules,” he could face a lengthy state prison term.

• Casie Brooks, 25, of Norwich, was sentenced to one year in the Chenango County Correctional Facility, according to District Attorney Joseph McBride, and subsequently released with credit for time served. In September, Brooks testified in the trial of convicted cocaine dealer Michael A. Victor Jr. She was originally convicted of third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance – a class B felony – and sentenced to drug treatment court and five years probation. She subsequently tested positive for narcotics and was sentenced to one year in the county correctional facility.

• John E. Bush Sr., 35, of Sherburne, was sentenced to two to four years in state prison following a week-long furlough granted by Judge W. Howard Sullivan on Feb. 10, after admitting he willfully violated the terms of his probation, which required he successfully complete the county’s treatment court program.
