David Geer art exhibit debuts at 6 On The Square March 8

OXFORD – 6 On The Square (6OTS) is pleased to announce the opening of an exhibit of oil paintings by award winning artist, David M. Geer. The art exhibit, depicting scenes from adobes in New Mexico to chateaux in France, will run from March 8 through April 30. Geer has ‘stopped to smell the roses’ and it is to everyone’s benefit that he has captured these special tranquil moments in his very collectible art.
Geer, from Unadilla, began drawing as soon as he could hold a pencil, and started selling his pictures to classmates for a quarter a piece in grade school. He began formal instruction in oil painting at the age of twelve and went on to a Bachelor of Arts degree at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa. He minored in art history and philosophy.
Every summer David exhibits his work at outdoor art festivals from Lake Erie to the Green Mountains. He was an artist-in-residence at Platte Clove in the Catskills in the summer of 2006. Geer began his career exhibiting in the student category at the Keuka Lake Art Association Art in Park in Hammondsport and has continued to exhibit there every year for well over a decade.
The David Geer painting exhibit will draw you in; it’s a sensory experience. In his own words the artist said, “I use quality of light and color choices to bring out moods, emotions or memories of a particular subject. I want people who see my work to slow down; to experience the light of a late summer afternoon, to smell the roses in the garden or to be taken back to the snow fields of their childhood."
Frequently David incorporates his love of travel into his work. He has painted the chateaux of France, the Grand Canal in Venice, the castles of the Vienna Woods, the lighthouses of the Maine coast, the squares of Savannah, the adobes of Taos, and the Rocky Mountains to name just a few subjects. He extensively photographs his travels and the results serve as reference for the paintings.
6OTS doors are open one-hour before and during performances. Visit 6OTS on the web - www.6onthesquare.org - to view performance schedules.
