Eight appear in county court
NORWICH – Five individuals indicted on a variety of felony and misdemeanor charges pleaded not guilty in county court Monday, while two others were sentenced following agreed upon dispositions. One other was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility after violating the conditions of his release.
• David Anderson, 45, of Norwich, pleaded not guilty to all charges and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $2,500 cash bail.
Anderson was indicted in January on charges of first degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a class E felony, operation of a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .08 of 1 percent or higher and driving while intoxicated, a class A misdemeanor.
It’s alleged that Anderson, on or about November 5 on County Road 32 in the Town of Norwich, operated a 1993 Honda motorcycle bearing no registration while his ability to do so was impaired by alcohol.
• Joshua A. Paine, 20, Guilford, pleaded not guilty to all charges and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail. In January, Paine was indicted on two counts of second degree burglary, a class C felony, and one count of third degree burglary, a class D felony.
It’s alleged that Paine, in concert with another individual, entered and unlawfully remained with the intent to commit a crime at a pair of Guilford residences located on County Road 35, on or about Oct. 16, Nov. 29 and Dec. 6. In addition, Paine is accused of committing the crime of larceny, stealing a 1939 Cherry Valley School class ring, cash and several antique items.
• Kenneth Peer, 30, of South New Berlin, pleaded not guilty to all charges and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $30,000 cash bail. Peer was indicted in January on a charge of first degree promoting prison contraband and is accused of knowingly and unlawfully introducing a dangerous contraband – the narcotic Hydrocodone – into the Chenango County Correctional Facility on or about October 18, in concert with another individual.
• Keith Blackwell, 23, of Norwich, pleaded not guilty to all charges and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail. Blackwell indicted in January on one count of first degree criminal contempt – a class E felony – and is accused of violating a duly served court order of protection issued by Norwich City Court. It’s alleged that Blackwell, on or about Dec. 21, did strike the subject of the order of protection in the face.
• Charles D. Fuller, 51, of Norwich, pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains free on $2,000 cash bail.
In January, Fuller was indicted on one count of failure to register as a sex offender – a class E felony – after he allegedly failed to notify the Division of Criminal Justice Service of a change of address within the required ten calendar days.
• Christine Ferguson, 34, of North Norwich, pleaded guilty to one count of third degree grand larceny – a class D felony – and was sentenced to five years probation.
It was alleged that Ferguson, on or about Sept. 6 and in concert with two other individuals, stole approximately $5,500 worth of guide post rails and guide rails from the Town of Guilford Highway Department.
• Dale Thompson, 23, of Sherburne, pleaded guilty to one count of third degree burglary – a class D felony – and was sentenced to one year in the Chenango County Correctional Facility.
It was alleged that Thompson, on or about July 6, unlawfully entered and remained at a Sherburne residence, where he committed the crime of larceny, stealing the prescription drug Hydrocodone.
• Jeremy Sawyer, 35, of Norwich, was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail after violating the conditions of his release just hours after pleading not guilty in County Court Feb. 24 on charges of first degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a class E felony, and driving while intoxicated, a class A misdemeanor.
According to the county’s district attorney’s office, Sawyer was found to have alcohol in his system on the afternoon of Feb. 24, following his arraignment that morning, when he was instructed not to consume or possess alcohol, controlled substances or marijuana.
