Norwich looks to clear another hurdle
NORWICH – Norwich won its fifth Section IV title last Friday when it made up a 20-point deficit in the second half to beat Chenango Valley for the third this season. It was an improbable comeback, but what seems more improbable is the span of time – 18 years – since Norwich last won a postseason game beyond the section level.
The Tornado (16-5) hope to rectify that drought Saturday afternoon at Binghamton High School when they face Section III champion Bishop Ludden (19-2) at 3 p.m. The Gaelic Knights advanced after beating Bishop Grimes for the third time this season this past Sunday in the Carrier Dome. It was the school’s 12th Section III title, but first in over a decade.
“They’re obviously very good,” said Norwich coach Tom Collier, who was in Syracuse Sunday to view the Knights. “There are no bad teams left at this level, and the one thing we can’t do is fall behind by 20 points. (Bishop Ludden) is too good of a team.”
