Norwich falls to Bishop Ludden
BINGHAMTON – Bishop Ludden sophomores Daniel Kaigler and Ben Hackett led the Gaelic Knights into the New York State Class B basketball semifinals defeating Norwich High School Saturday afternoon at Binghamton High School, 56-44.
Hackett and Kaigler – just sophomores – finished with 16 and 15 points respectively. Nick Walker came off the bench to score nine points, and point guard Cameron Littlejohn added eight points.
Norwich (16-6) traded leads with the Knights in the first quarter, and Eric Walling’s three-pointer put the Tornado in front 10-8. Littlejohn answered on the next possession with a three for Bishop Ludden, and Walker’s pull-up jumper with 30 seconds left in the stanza made it a three-point game.
Bishop Ludden did not trail the rest of the way, and back-to-back baskets by Walker and Hackett late in the first half moved the lead to 23-16.
Kaigler scored seven in the third quarter – mostly as a result of his strong inside post presence – extending the margin to 11 after three, and the margin was as big as 16 in the fourth when Walker completed a three-point play with 1:10 to play in the game.
Seth Thomsen scored 13 for Norwich, while Dennis Oralls and Kyle Edwards chipped in with 11 points apiece.
