Five charged in city drug bust

NORWICH – The Norwich Police Department, aided by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team, executed a pair of no-knock search warrants at residences within the city shortly before 6 a.m. Wednesday, arresting five and confiscating quantities of heroin and crack-cocaine, drug paraphernalia and cash.

The following individuals have been charged in connection with the police raid:

• Makia R. Hathaway, 20, 12 Ross Ave., was charged with third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (heroin), a class B felony, criminal nuisance, an E felony, seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal use of drug paraphernalia and criminal possession of a hypodermic needle, all A misdemeanors.

• Shakir X. Elliott, 22, 1205 Dudley Ave., Utica, was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and first degree loitering, class A and B misdemeanors respectively.

• Michael B. Mack, 22, 512 Square St., Utica, was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and first degree loitering, class A and B misdemeanors respectively.
