Broad Street Methodist to hold annual healing service
NORWICH – The Broad Street United Methodist Church will hold its yearly Lenten Healing Service during its 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. worship services on Sunday, continuing a tradition that began four years ago.
Said senior pastor Nancy Hale, “A service of healing is not necessarily a service of curing, but it provides an atmosphere in which healing can happen. The greatest healing of all is the reunion or reconciliation of a human being first with God, and then with other people.”
When that happens, added Hale, who took over as pastor at the Methodist Church in January, physical healing sometimes occurs; mental and emotional balance is often restored; spiritual health is enhanced; and relationships are healed.
“For Christians, the basic purpose of spiritual healing is to renew and strengthen our relationship with the living Christ and with each other,” said Hale.
The service will be focused on the theme of healing and those in attendance will have an opportunity to be anointed with oil and receive prayer from one of the congregation’s prayer teams following the sermon. Those wishing to do so may receive the anointment and prayer for themselves or on behalf of someone else who needs healing, said Hale.
“Anointing with oil is an action that signifies the healing love of God and the healing presence of Jesus Christ, who is God’s own anointed one,” she added. “You do not have to come forward to participate in this service, however. Healing can happen even as you remain in your seat. God’s love and power reaches out to us wherever we are.”
