DVD Patrol

The Heatwave is here, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol has been enjoying the nice warm weather and it’s hard to believe the ground hog predicted six more weeks of winter. The Toddster isn’t sure what he was seeing that day, but we do have some movies for you if you want to take a break from whatever you’re doing outside. It’s time to look!

New on DVD

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - Everyone needs help and sometimes you get it from the strangest places. Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) was a reporter and good at his job until he’s wrongfully accused of a crime he didn’t commit. Now he has a chance to rescue his reputation when he’s hired by a mysterious millionaire (Christopher Plummer) who wants him to find out who killed his niece. He thinks it might be a member of his own family. The deeper Mikael gets, the tougher it gets. He enlists the help of Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara). Lisbeth keeps to herself and has a unusual appearance but she makes up for it with her investigating and computer skills. Mikael’s not sure what to make of her but he knows she can help him. Can they get to the bottom of the case together? Based on the best selling book series, a sequel is already in the works. Craig is currently working on “Skyfall” and is the next James Bond movie set for release at the end of the year.

The Muppets - When you’re a fan of something, you never really want to see it go away. Walter (Jason Segel) was always a big fan of the Muppets and hated to see them go. Some years go by and he comes to find out that the old Muppet Theater is going to be torn down to make way for oil drilling. Walter hates for this to happen so he goes on a cross country trip with his friend Mary (Amy Adams) and his brother Gary to find Kermit. Only with his help can they reunite all the Muppets to save the theater and raise the money to get it back. Will the group be able to save it? Segel can be seen on “How I Met Your Mother” airing on CBS on Mondays at 8PM and can be seen in the new movie “Jeff, Who Lives At Home” coming soon to theaters.

Also on DVD

Hop - Sometimes the job you’re supposed to have isn’t the one you want. E.B (Russell Brand) thinks of himself as a great musician and want to play his drums. Unfortunately, his Dad happens to be the Easter Bunny and wants E.B to take over the family business. E.B has other plans and when he meet Fred (James Marsden), he might have found a way to do other things. Meanwhile, back at home, some evil chicks who hate the idea of the Easter Bunny have their own ideas of how Easter should go. Easter could be in danger if E.B doesn’t come back home. Is E.B going to find a way to see what is right and come back home to save Easter? Brand is keeping busy when he stars with Tom Cruise in “Rock of Ages” coming soon to theaters.

Now in Theaters

John Carter - It can take a while for heroes to find their way again. John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) just wanted to find his way to strike it rich and be left alone after he lost his family. The military comes looking for him because they think he still might have something to offer. Carter tries to talk them out of it, but they won’t take no for an answer. They chase him into a cave that seems to have a lot of strange symbols and is full of gold which is what Carter has been looking for. During the battle with the Army, he meets a mysterious stranger who is strangely dressed and is using a strange device that seems to be able to transport people to another place. Carter gets caught up in it and is swept to Mars. After he gets there, he meets many alien races and seems to have the strength to leap great distances and do battle better than he ever could before. Carter gets caught in the middle of an ancient war between the last two cities of Mars. Can he make a difference and stop the war before Mars is wiped out?
The Toddster’s Take - Disney makes movies that people want to see. Based on the book written by Edgar Rice Burroughs (the same writer who created Tarzan), the movie does move along. It does get a little bogged down because there are too many characters and sometimes you feel like you need a scorecard to tell who is who. Kitsch was terrific as Carter and Lynn Collins as the Princess really lighten up the film. Might be a little confusing for kids, but not too scary. Use your best judgement. See it for yourself.
Hope you like what we’ve set out for you. A few more movies on the way for the Toddster to review coming out in the next few weeks. Out teamup is just around the corner for you as well. The Toddster will return next time.
