A Spring Frolic for Friends of Rogers

SHERBURNE – For nearly a year, the volunteer group Friends of Rogers has been steadily holding its own as an organization and now, the group is planning to host its first off-site fundraising event, the Spring Folic, from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, at the Colgate Inn in Hamilton.
The Spring Frolic is the organization’s second large-scale fundraiser since the New York State Department of Conservation authorized the group’s control of Rogers Conservation Education Center in 2011.
According to Friends of Rogers Coordinator Cara Sefchick, expectations for the event are high among members of the FOR committee and based on community response thus far, the occasion is almost sure to be a huge success for the education center.
“Tickets are starting to sell really fast,” she said. “We actually anticipate the event selling out.”
For weeks, FOR has been collecting donations to help with their efforts from individuals and stores throughout the area. With no set fundraising goal in mind, FOR members are just hoping for a good turnout, said Sefchick.
“It’s our first year, so anything raised would make it a good year. Most of the battle is just getting people to know we’re still here,” she added.
Admission price is $40 per ticket and Sefchick assured that all is going toward helping the organization with its mission of enhancing environmental education, stewardship and educational workshops and programs at the conservation center.
Admission includes an evening of appetizers, desserts and a glass of champagne. Live music, a silent auction and a cash bar will be available for attendees to enjoy.
“We’re trying to make it as fun as we possibly can,” said Sefchick. “It’s a way to hopefully get people out of their houses ... We’re hoping it will bring in some new people, too,” she went on to say, noting that the organization is still well known for several of its annual events.
Friends of Rogers membership has slowly but steadily increased over the last few months, thanks in part to FOR’s large community functions, including January’s Winter Living Celebration, ongoing programs like the Kids Drop-in program and Full Moon Member Nights, and upcoming events like the Spring Frolic, explained Sefchick.
