NORWICH – Two of the five people charged in connection with a pair of March 14 drug busts have since been charged with additional crimes after being released on their own recognizance – with special conditions – following their arraignment in Norwich City Court.

On March 14, the Norwich Police Department – assisted by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Department and the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team – executed two no-knock search warrants at 12 Ross Ave. and 8 Griffin St., making arrests and confiscating quantities of heroin and crack-cocaine, drug paraphernalia and cash.

• Rebecca D. Carpenter, 23, appeared in Chenango County Court March 30, following her arrest on an active warrant issued by the Chenango County Court for violating the conditions of her release, and was subsequently charged with criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument. According to the county’s District Attorney’s Office, Carpenter failed to meet with the county’s Treatment Court coordinator for testing and was found to be in possession of a hypodermic needle at the time of her arrest.

She was originally charged – following the March 14 bust – with criminal nuisance, a class E felony, seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal use of drug paraphernalia and criminal possession of a hypodermic needle, all class A misdemeanors. Carpenter is currently being held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $15,000 bail and will appear in court at a later date.
