Norwich 9, Sidney 1
SIDNEY – Norwich senior Ben Barnes won his third decision in as many starts Thursday afternoon – all on the road – limiting Sidney to three hits in the Tornado’s non-league victory.
Barnes, who started the season with a no-hitter, had his third complete game as he struck out 11, walked two, and gave up just one earned run. “It was another solid pitching performance by Barnes,” said Norwich coach John Martinson. “Combined with a complete team effort at the plate, we were able to move runners over and we had a lot of guys with big days.”
Colby Griffin hit a three-run double in the second that lifted the Norwich lead to 4-0. Griffin finished 3-for-4 with five RBI. Grady Thompson was 2-for-4 with two RBI, Barnes had two hits and a ribbie, and catcher John Yacano was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Windsor 13, Greene 1
WINDSOR – A dropped third strike with two outs kept Windsor’s fifth inning alive, and Nick Benson’s three-run double led to a Black Knights get-away in Thursday’s victory over Greene.
Nate Wrighter had a two-run double in the sixth and Josh Cady capped an eight-run Windsor inning with a bases-clearing double.
Through 4 1/2 innings, the Trojans were locked in a 1-1 tie, and were riding the strong pitching of sophomore hurler Josh Hurlburt. Hurlburt allowed just three hits in five innings striking out eight. “He definitely deserved a better fate today,” said Greene coach Steve Burghardt of Hurlburt. “I was very pleased with the way he threw.”

Oxford 6, Afton 5
AFTON – Cameron Heggie singled to start the seventh, and eventually scored on Adam Pierson’s groundball for the winning run in Oxford’s road victory at Afton Thursday.
The Crimson Knights tied the game in the bottom of the sixth scoring a pair of unearned runs. Cameron Oswald’s flyball to centerfield was misplayed, and that allowed Josh Davy and Connor Graven-Briggs to score. “To be honest, I was amazed we were even in the game,” said Afton coach Ron Rapp. “With all of the walks, hit batsmen, and errors, on paper there was no way we should have been in it.”
Oxford pitcher Andrew Golden held the Afton bats in check allowing seven hits. He struck out six and walked one for the victory. Golden also had three runs scored, while Richard Ryan and Matt Moore had two RBI apiece.
Graven-Briggs had two hits for Afton; Oswald and Davy scored two runs each.
