Golf tournament to raise money for suicide prevention walk

OXFORD – Team Chenango for Suicide Prevention and Awareness will hold a golf tournament May 6 to raise money for the Overnight Walk, held June 9 and 10 in San Francisco.

The golf tournament will begin at noon at the Bluestone Golf Course in Oxford. The cost of the tournament will be $55 per person. Teams can sign up by contacting Danielle Marshman at 843-2663.

Marshman created Team Chenango two years ago to walk in the annual overnight rally. She said she was motivated to enlighten people about the tragedy of suicide after she lost her father in 2001.

“It’s such a sad thing to lose someone like that,” said Marshman. “People don’t know how to react and it hurts the families.”

Following the tournament, there will be a dinner of baked ziti that is open to the public, with spaghetti sauce provided by Sue Franco, who is also a survivor. Goodwill donations are welcome, added Marshman.

In keeping with the spirit of Team Chenango, there will be a variety of gift baskets to be raffled off with various Chenango County themes. Marshman said there will be a basket for each town in the county as well as baskets from “Chenango Authors,” “Chenango Musicians” and “Chenango Theater.”
