Multiple departments respond to Afton fire
AFTON – A late afternoon structure fire at 137 Afton Lake Road in the Town of Afton Monday required mutual aid from several county fire departments and caused significant damage before being knocked down.
Fire and emergency personnel from the Afton, Coventry, Bainbridge, Sidney and Harpursville fire departments all responded to the blaze, which is believed to have started in a sunroom located at the rear of the residence. The fire was knocked down in less than an hour, said Afton Fire Chief Blaine Reiling, although the subsequent clean-up was “extensive,” he said.
Contained within two rooms, the cause of the fire – first reported at 4:54 p.m. yesterday – is still under investigation. Both residents were home at the time of the fire, although no injuries were reported.
