ONEONTA – Oneonta received a sterling effort on the mound from hurler Mark Giallanzo, and the ‘Jackets’ offense scored early and often in a shutout of the Purple Tornado Wednesday.
Giallanzo pitched a one-hit shutout, the lone base knock for the Tornado coming from senior Dennis Oralls.
Ben Moxley went 4-for-5 with five RBI to lead Oneonta. David Wright, Mike Calkins, and Zach Pidgeon drove in two runs apiece. “Oneonta hit the ball very well, and you can see why they have been a perennial power,” said Norwich coach John Martinson.
Norwich hosts Chenango Valley Friday.

Sidney 10, Oxford 6
OXFORD – Sidney claimed the lead with five runs in the third inning to erase a three-run deficit in Wednesday’s victory at Oxford.
In the third, Dylan Van Pelt reached on an infield error that scored Jon Wingate with the tying run, and Nate MacDonald’s triple plated the go-ahead run. “Sidney hit the ball hard today, that’s for sure,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “Six of their hits went for extra bases, and they had several loud outs.”
Adam Pierson had two hits and three runs for Oxford, and Andrew Golden added two hits and two RBI in the loss.

COPES CORNERS – Morris pushed across four runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead from G-MU in Wednesday’s road victory.
The Raiders committed three of their five errors in the fifth, and Kyle Doyle’s two-run triple gave the Mustangs the lead for keeps. “They took advantage of the mistakes that we made,” said G-MU coach Rick Mohrein. “With the exception of that one inning, we played well. We just have to play seven good innings, not six.”
Dan Primrose, Tim French, and Codi Mabie had two hits for G-MU (3-10), who host a doubleheader against Laurens Friday.

Sauquoit Valley 6, Sherburne-Earlville 3
SHERBURNE - Sauquoit Valley pitcher Aaron LoPiccolo bested the Marauders for the second time this season allowing six hits in Wednesday’s victory.
LoPiccolo helped his own cause with two hits and two RBIs, and shortstop Rob Slivinski added an RBI triple. Slivinski was a vacuum up the middle, said S-E coach Brian Hicks. “(Slivinski) made at least three or four unbelievable plays tonight,” Hicks said. “He and LoPiccolo were definitely the difference.”
The Marauders’ Mike Wilson hit his 10th double of the season, and he scored two of his team’s three runs.

Unadilla Valley 15, B-G 6
NEW BERLIN – A seven-run fifth inning pushed Unadilla Valley into the lead for good as the Storm improved to 7-2 on the season with a victory over B-G Wednesday.
Brandon Miles had a big day at the plate with two triples, a home run, and six RBI. Justin Hofer tripled in his 2-for-3 day and drove in three runs.
Miles struck out six and was nicked for 10 hits by the B-G batters in earning the victory. “Brandon had a decent night of pitching other than a couple of location mistakes to B-G’s big sticks,” said UV coach Gary Alford. “But he really made up for those mistakes with his bat.”
UV hosts Oxford today in a makeup game from last week.

Unatego 10, Afton 2
AFTON - Unatego took the lead with four runs in the fourth, and pulled away with four more runs in the sixth in Wednesday’s victory at Afton (1-13).
The Spartans’ Phil Youngs had two hits including an RBI double, and the Travis Woods also went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Woods started the fourth with the first of his two doubles, and came in on Dan Shelton’s RBI single that knotted the game at 2-2. Shelton scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error.
“They have disciplined hitters who are extremely patient, and they found a way to drive the ball,” said Afton coach Ron Rapp of Unatego.

Delhi 4, Greene 0
DELHI – Delhi scored three runs in the first inning, and pitcher Brian Hannigan made those tallies stand up pitching a three-hit shutout against Greene Wednesday.
The Trojans have given up at least three runs in the opening inning in three out of the last four games, but have blanked teams in 21 out of the last 27 innings. “We’ve had some tough first innings, but I haven’t a quibble with our pitching,” said Greene coach Steve Burghardt. “We’ve only had nine hits over the last four games.”
Ben Dennison had an RBI single in the first for Delhi. Dennison, Brady Sackett, and Tyler Hymers all had two hits.
Greene is at B-G today.

Oneonta 3, Norwich 2
ONEONTA - Norwich’s only offense came in the opening inning as Oneonta rebounded for a comeback win over the Tornado Wednesday.
Brie Baker’s single in the fifth tied the game at 2-2, and Erin Mushtare tripled to lead off of the sixth, and came in with the winning run on Minnie Webster’s infield grounder.
Norwich, who lost by a run earlier this week, scored its two runs on Jaime Berger’s two-run homer.
Oneonta pitcher Seneca Baldwin settled down after the opening inning. She allowed six NHS hits and struck out seven. “We just couldn’t put our hits together in one inning,” said Norwich coach Scott Moore. “Seneca did a good job with her curveball, and she threw with some good speed to keep our hitters off balance.”
Norwich hosts Chenango Valley Friday.

OXFORD – Oxford senior pitcher Jacquelyn Heggie had her second straight 14-strikeout game tossing a two-hit shutout against Sidney Wednesday.
The Blackhawks snapped a three-game losing streak behind a 13-hit attack highlighted by a four-run opening inning.
Julianne Heggie’s double scored the first run, Jacquelyn Heggie chased that double with a two-run triple, and the latter Heggie scored on Jessica Frank’s groundout.
Julianne Heggie went a perfect 3-for-3, while Lacey Barry, Meg Golden, Olivia Roach, and Jacquelyn Heggie all had two hits.
Oxford is at Unadilla Valley today.

COPES CORNERS – G-MU built an 8-0 lead after six innings, and received a five-hit complete game from pitcher Jenny Mason in Wednesday’s victory over Morris.
Logan Eltz went 2-for-4 and led G-MU with four RBI. Lauren Hill, Victoria Hawkins, Mason, and Kelsey Ross finished with two hits apiece.

SHERBURNE – Shania Taylor and Jessica Jecko combined for seven hits and five RBI to lift Sauquoit Valley past Sherburne-Earlville Wednesday.
Taylor went 4-for-5 and picked up the victory striking out five and allowing seven Marauders basehits.
S-E’s Cori Bergeron was 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Brooke Wright added a two-run single.

NORWICH - Norwich continued its hot play winning its fourth match in a week, Wednesday against Johnson City.
Colin Stewart improved to 9-0 on the season winning 6-1, 6-0 at third singles, and the first doubles team of Roman Cwynar and Sal Cole also remained perfect on the season winning in straight sets. “We’ve been on a roll and we’re plying really well right now,” said Norwich coach John Stewart. “If you look at the scores from when we played Johnson City earlier this year, we had four three-set matches. This match we had just one. That shows how much we’ve improved, and the time and effort they’ve put into their play.”
Norwich (8-1) is at home Friday.
