Last day to avoid foreclosure is May 11

NORWICH – The Chenango County Treasurer’s Office and town supervisors are alerting property owners who have four or more years worth of overdue taxes that their homes and/or land may be included in the upcoming tax foreclosure and sale. The final day to avoid foreclosure is Friday, May 11.
This year’s sale date is July 26. Bid packets are available after June 11, and the last day for interested buyers to submit bids on properties is July 24.
Currently, 104 parcels have yet to be redeemed. Chenango County Deputy Treasurer Barbara Strier said she anticipates less than half of those parcels will ultimately be offered in the sale, a number that is in line with previous years.
“People always tend to wait until the last minute (to pay),” she said. The tax office sends periodic reminders to at risk property owners. Town supervisors also attempt to contact owners.
