Bainbridge-Guilford 4, Afton 1

BAINBRIDGE – Corbin Palmer outdueled Afton pitcher Josh Akshar as Bainbridge-Guilford continued its late-season surge winning its third straight game Monday.

B-G’s clutch hitting in the sixth allowed it to break away from the Knights. With two outs, Tyler Ouimet singled to left center field driving in two runs breaking a 1-1 tie. Brandon Lamont followed with an RBI single scoring Ouimet.

Palmer allowed five hits and struck out four. The lone run he surrendered came in the top of the sixth when Mark Viviano singled in Akshar. Akshar was the tough-luck loser giving up just four hits.

“It was a really well-played game, and it just happened that we were able to string some hits together in that one big inning,” said B-G coach Tim Mattingly. “We’re playing good ball right now, and playing error-free the last two games certainly helps.”

G-MU 3, Worcester 0

COPES CORNERS – G-MU pitcher Jason Barrows pitched a three-hit shutout as G-MU defeated Tri-Valley League rival Worcester on Monday.

Barrows struck out 12 and walked four in what was a pitchers’ duel. His counterpart on the mound, Brendan Ralph, also allowed just two hits and struck out seven. “Jason pitched very effectively and efficiently in going after their hitters,” said G-MU coach Rick Mohrein. “I was really impressed with his poise on the mound.”
