GREENE - Greene dealt Whitney Point its first loss of the season on Friday night, 7-1, and erupted for 20 runs on Saturday in the championship game walloping Oxford, 20-4, in the fourth annual Greene Tournament.
The Blackhawks hung tight early on as Jacquelyn Heggie’s two-out three-run homer in the third moved her club within one, 4-3. Greene answered back with three of its own in the bottom half of the frame, and continued to score in every at-bat.
“I think our confidence went way up after beating (Oxford) on Thursday,” said Greene coach Rick Smith. “We were aggressive on the base paths, and we executed really well.”
Taylor Ellis was a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored. Morgan Ellis and Natalie Greene added three hits apiece.
In the consolation game, Norwich won for the sixth time this season – its most wins in at least 18 seasons – toppling Whitney Point, 8-1.
Katie Callahan had a two-run single in Norwich’s three-run fourth, and finished with three RBI. Logan Thompson drove in three runs as well, while Shannon Moore and Morgan Loucks contributed 2-for-4 days at the plate.
“Whitney Point was a good win for us,” said Norwich coach Scott Moore. “Everybody got some hits for us this weekend, and we were able to get the small ball going.”
Greene advanced past Whitney Point 7-1 on Friday. The Trojans (14-4) assumed the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first, and winning pitcher Rebecca Hanrahan allowed just two hits.
Caitlin Willis was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, Kiley Shaff had two hits, and Taylor Ellis drove in a pair of runs.

GREENE – The third meeting was the charm for Oxford, who advanced to the finals of the Greene tournament beating Norwich Friday for the first time in three contests.
The Blackhawks opened up a 6-0 lead scoring five runs in the top of the second. The Tornado, idle the past week, committed three of their five errors during the Oxford rally, and Jessica Frank capped the uprising with a two-run single.
“We had that one bad inning, and they capitalized on it,” said Norwich coach Scott Moore. “That’s what a week off will do for you, you lose momentum.”
Shelby Condon was a perfect 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead NHS. Jaime Berger and Shannon Moore added single RBIs.

BAINBRIDGE - Bainbridge-Guilford defeated Sherburne-Earlville in the semifinals, and rolled to a Sidney Federal Credit Union team title beating Sidney in the championship game Saturday.
Taylor Palmatier scattered seven hits to pick up the victory in the final game, and Shania Vandermark struck for a home run.
To reach the finals, B-G rapped out 14 hits, while S-E committed 12 errors. Palmatier, Vandermark, Justin Pratt, Amber DeGroat, and Megan Ferrara all had two hits. Pratt picked up the victory and led the way with three RBI.
S-E’s Alexis Paul went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
The Marauders atoned for that loss defeating Unadilla Valley in the consolation game.
Brooke Wright, Alexis Paul and Grace Dunshee all had two hits for S-E, and Chelsea Beaudoin contributed a two-run single.

Franklin 10, G-MU 2
COPES CORNERS - Franklin, the only team in the Tri-Valley League to beat G-MU this season, duplicated that feat Friday night in a matchup of the top West Division teams in the league.
The win for the Purple Devils locks up the division title. “They just hit the ball so well tonight, and they earned absolutely everything,” said G-MU coach Tina Cole.
Franklin’s top four hitters – Marissa Cawley, Jordan Beers, Haley Downin, and Jessie Terrano – combined for 12 of their team’s 18 hits. Cawley was 4-for-5 with a triple, and Downin homered in her 3-for-5 day. “We pushed our defense back, but they were still able to drop some hits in front,” Cole said. “We just couldn’t get our bats going; everything we hit was right at them.”
Whitney Gilbert and Mariah Bliss had two hits apiece for G-MU (10-2, 12-3).
The Raiders face Edmeston today.

MADISON – Madison took advantage of seven OV errors Friday, and put the game away with three runs in the top of the sixth.
Tyler Peters and Derek Schmidt each scored two runs for Madison, and Mike Best had a pair of its.
Charles Bishop drove in two runs for the Vikings, and Gregory DeRochie finished 2-for-3 at the plate.

DEPOSIT - Oxford took the lead for good with five runs in the top of the fifth, and evened its record at 8-8 on the season at Deposit Friday.
The Blackhawks grabbed the lead for the first time scoring three runs in the fourth. Ryan Moore had a two-run single. Those runs were canceled out as Deposit rallied to tie the game with three runs of its own.
Andrew Golden’s two-run single keyed the five-run fifth, and Deposit aided the effort committing many of its six errors.
Golden was a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI. Cameron Heggie, Jeff Lawton, and Ryan Moore added two RBI apiece. Matt Moore finished 2-for-3 and had an RBI single in the third. “It was nice to see the bats come alive, especially after combining for just four hits the previous two games,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer.
The Blackhawks are at Delhi today.

NORWICH - Owego capitalized on two Norwich errors and scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to snap a 3-3 tie and win at Norwich Saturday afternoon.
The Tornado initiated the scoring in the fourth on Justin Lindenthaler’s two-run single. Owego regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning scoring three times.
Colby Griffin knotted the game for the Tornado in the top of the sixth driving in his team’s third run.
Devin Bensley picked up the win allowing five hits to the Tornado.

Oxford qualifies for sectionals in loss to Cincy, UV
NEW BERLIN - In defeat Friday at Riverbend Golf Club, Oxford qualified for the Class C team sectionals shooting a 217 over the par-36 layout. The Blackhawks (5-4-1) needed to shoot a 220 or better to earn the qualifying spot, and all five starters broke 50 led by Dan Dey’s 40.
UV shot a season-best 212 with Collin Izard and Brenon Maynard pacing the Storm with 41s.

Parkhurst Invitational
VESTAL – Norwich’s 3,200-meter relay broke a long-standing school record earlier this past week, and Saturday at the Parkhurst Invitational, shattered the mark by a whopping seven seconds.
The foursome of Nate Ashton, Nuri Harper, Jamie Zieno, and Matt Murray completed the race in 8:16.43, nearly 10 seconds lower than the initial record they broke this past Monday.
Also at the meet, NHS sophomore Brooke Bonney captured the Tornado’s lone victory winning the shot put with a throw of 34-11 3/4. Senior Sarah Spittler picked up NHS’s only other top-three finish taking third in the 800 meters (2:30.44).
