Chobani’s Olympics commercial to feature Chenango residents
COLUMBUS – Chobani, an official sponsor of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team, announced yesterday that a commercial campaign to be shown nationwide during the summer games will be filmed in Chenango County and will feature local residents, businesses and farms.
“We want to tell our story to America,” said CEO and founder Hamdi Ulukaya in a press conference Wednesday. “So next week we start shooting here because Chobani is about people, and it’s the people in the community who have made all of this possible.”
The company’s second national ad campaign will be 60 seconds in length and will run every day of the Olympic games.
Ulukaya said the advertisement will focus on the stories of local people who have been affected by Chobani since they opened the production facility five years ago.
“We’re really proud of what we’ve accomplished with Chenango County,” said Ulukaya. “This is our hometown and we’d like to tell the real stories of real people.”
Steve Craig, president of Commerce Chenango, said he was excited to hear of the opportunity.
“Anytime a national spotlight is shined on Chenango County, it’s a positive thing for our
residents and our businesses,” said Craig. “I guess you could say it’s ‘Nothing But Good.’”
Ulukaya said the decision to support the U.S. Olympics team was the perfect sponsorship for the company. Their slogan for the games, “Naturally Powering” reflects the healthy living choices the company strives to present.
The yet-unnamed production company will begin filming next week in preparation for the upcoming games.
“We’re very glad they’ve chosen to promote the beauty of the area,” said Columbus Councilman Bruce Vermeulen.
