Two sentenced, one pleads not guilty in county court

NORWICH – A pair of individuals indicted on felony charges pleaded guilty in county court Friday, while an already convicted and incarcerated sex offender pleaded not guilty to a sex crime charge.

• Charles F. Cahill, 43, of Norwich, pleaded guilty to third degree burglary and was sentenced to two and a third to seven years in state prison – to be served as supervised parole at the Willard Drug Treatment Center – following an agreed upon disposition between the county’s district attorney’s and public defender’s offices.

If successful, Cahill will face seven years of post-release supervision.

In February, Cahill was charged with third degree burglary and fourth degree grand larceny – class D and E felonies respectively – following a police investigation into a forced entry at the St. Bartholomew’s Parish Center and the theft of electronic equipment from its office.

Cahill admitted he was intoxicated the night of the incident.

• Keith Blackwell, 23, of Norwich, pleaded guilty to one count of first degree criminal contempt – a class E felony – and was sentenced to one year in the Chenango County Correctional Facility following a plea deal negotiated between the county’s district attorney’s and public defender’s offices.
