Ammonia leak at Chobani sends two to hospital; factory evacuated

NEW BERLIN – A major ammonia leak reported shortly after 9 a.m. Monday at Chobani’s 669 County Road 25 production facility required the evacuation of the yogurt-maker’s entire workforce and sent two employees to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

According to a Chobani press release, the leak was detected in a chill tunnel at the New Berlin plant. The facility was immediately evacuated and all onsite employees were relocated to a safe spot.

Two employees were taken via ambulance to UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital and both have since been released in good health. No other injuries have been reported.
