DVD Patrol

Are you ready, Patrollers?! The DVD Patrol is ready to bring another pulse pounding week of all new stuff as only the Toddster can bring you. I have to tell you I was able to catch another movie in the theater and I have to tell you that The Hamilton Theater is a great place to see one. More on that later. Let’s see what we see.

New on DVD

The Woman in Black - Now Daniel Radcliffe (of Harry Potter Fame) can add Ghostbuster to his resume. Radcliffe plays Arthur Kipps. Arthur is a lawyer who’s been sent to sort out some things for a deceased houseowner. Little does he know that the community knows something he doesn’t and the house he goes into is actually haunted by a woman in black. No one knows who she really was, but they do know she is looking for something and she will go after anyone who comes into the house. Can Arthur sort out the mystery before the Woman in Black takes out her wrath on him? Everyone is convinced that Radcliffe is done with Harry Potter. Keep your ears peeled because we sure will. Never say never!

This Means War -A partnership is a wonderful thing. Most of the time it’s always been share and share alike for FDR (Chris Pine) and Tuck (Tom Hardy). What a lot of people don’t know is that the two partners are actually CIA agents and they are great at what they do. Things get a bit dicey when they meet Lauren (Reese Witherspoon). Lauren really likes both of them but she has trouble choosing between them. FDR and Tuck also are using all of their CIA tricks to discourage each other. At the same time, the case they are working on has the drug cartel leader chasing after them when one of his deals goes bad. Will Lauren find a way to choose which one of these guys is for her? Pine is currently wrapping up “Star Trek 2” and Hardy will be playing Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises” coming to theaters in July.

Also on DVD

Red Tails - Produced by George Lucas. Lucas has always loved history and he couldn’t resist the story of the Tuskeegee Airmen. The Airmen comprise the first time African Americans were being sent into war. However, this was during a time when equal rights were viewed differently and these men weren’t treated as well as they should have been. All they wanted was a chance and they got it. Take a look at this story that defines men who wanted to serve their country even when the country didn’t wish to serve them. Take a look at history in the making on this one. Lucas also has more Star Wars on the way that will be in 3D towards the end of the year.

Now in Theaters

Battleship - What do you do when you mix a little “Transformers,””Independence Day,” and a slight dash of ‘Armegeddon?” That’s what you have when an alien force comes knocking. Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch) was down on his luck and the only chance he has to make something of himself was to join the Navy. Even joining up, Alex still wants to do things his own way. He has a lot of potential but his actions don’t really show it. After scientists send a radio signal to another planet, Alex will get a chance to straighten up. An alien force answers the signal and all they want to do is destroy everything they see. Alex’s superiors are all killed and now all the men look to him for leadership. Can he make a difference to stop the invaders and to his men who need him?
The Toddster’s Take - I have to say I was very surprised on this one. The action and the story were amped up to such a degree that you really didn’t really have time to consider this was based on a board game. Director Peter Berg brings a great story with Kitsch leading the cast towards a climax you hope everyone can win in the end. I don’t think there will be a sequel, but you never know. A good popcorn movie. Check it out!
Didn’t we tell you it would be a good week? Before we go, The Toddster just wanted to drop a few lines about the Hamilton Theater. I’ve had the pleasure to review quite a number of movies in this theater. Theater owner Chuck Fox and his amazing staff serve the public and bring movies as only they can. The theater also has a number of special events including showing a lot of independent movies, special events like operas, and even outdoor movie showings from time to time. Contact the theater at (315) 824-2724 for everything they have to offer.
