Musician, guitarist and teacher Tom Rasely is headed west

NORWICH – For years, he’s been something of a musical staple in Chenango County. And on June 3, local music lovers will have an opportunity to bid guitarist, songwriter and teacher Tom Rasely a fond farewell as he prepares to leave the land of the bullthistle for southern Indiana.
For those who know the talented songster, it should come as no surprise that this farewell will take form as a concert, one that will feature an extremely gifted group of local musicians who have performed with – and befriended – Rasely over the years.
Guest musicians including vocalist Meena Nair, Susan Marson on oboe, organist Bob Oehme, guitarists Roy Coston and Ron Palmer, Bob Tousignant on drums, bassist Carl Pickett and special guest Scott B. Adams will all join Rasely on stage for what is sure to be a once in a lifetime musical event.
For Rasely, it’s a chance to say goodbye in the only way he knows, through music.
Said the guitarist, who has given music lessons to literally thousands of students over the decades, “Music is an expanding universe ... the more you learn, the more you find there is to learn.”
Rasely began playing guitar shortly after the Beatlemania arrived in America, receiving his first guitar at the age of 13. Since then, he’s toured more than half the the country, as well as Canada, performing twice in the White House. As a recording artist, he’s appeared on more than 60 projects, including his own, original works. It’s a résumé that’s impressive in its scope and sheer size, and one the talented guitarist is continually expanding upon.
In fact, May saw the release of yet another Rasely-penned CD, God Bless the World, available now on CD Baby and Amazon.com.
“This is a collection of songs for the heart ... songs for the soul,” said Rasely. “They are songs of faith, songs of triumph, songs of love lost and songs of love found. They are songs that speak against violence and hate, and the possibility of a world at peace.”
For Rasely, the move to Indiana is simply one more step in his musical journey.
The Tom Rasely Farewell Concert will be held at 4 p.m. June 3 at the United Church of Christ, 11 West Main Street. The concert is free and open to the public, and all are invited to attend. For more information on Tom Rasely and his music visit rasely.com.
