DVD Patrol

Stay cool, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol has been busy keeping the movies going on our end and the Toddster is almost out of breath seeing everything there is to see. The past few weeks have been going fast with “Avengers,” “Battleship,” and a little movie that’s just come out called “Men in Black 3.” Check out our review a little bit later. Let’s get cracking with a few DVDs first.

New on DVD

Man on a Ledge - There are some things that you should never take from someone. A person’s freedom is one of them. Nick Cassiday (Sam Worthington) was an easy going guy until he was framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Now desperate to prove he didn’t do it, he enlists the aid of his brother Joey (Jamie Bell) and his girlfriend Angie (Genesis Rodriguez). They have to get back the diamond that Nick has been blamed for stealing being held in a safe by David Englander (Ed Harris). To distract everyone, Nick has to make it look as if he wants to jump off a building and the police have sent negotiater Lydia Mercer (Elizabeth Banks) to try and talk him down. She senses there is more to what Nick has going on than he’s letting on. Can she figure out what’s happening or will Nick’s plan fall apart? Worthington has some great DVDs out there including “Avatar,” “Terminator: Salvation,” and “Clash of the Titans” now available on DVD.

Gone - No one likes to see bad things happen to good people. Jill Parrish (Amanda Seyfried) was your basic hard working girl but she is also a survivor. It turns out that a year ago she was kidnapped but made her escape and has been trying to put it behind her to pick up the pieces of her life again. She comes from work to find that her sister Molly has gone missing. Afraid that the same kidnapper has returned. Jill tries to convince the same man that took her the year before has returned. Not having any luck, Jill goes out on her own to find her sister and stop the man who tried to kill her. Can she do the job and save her sister before it’s too late? Catch some of Seyfried’s work on DVD that the Toddster can recommend including a few gems like “Red Riding Hood,””Chloe,” and “Dear John” in stores now.

New on Blu Ray

Lethal Weapon - One of the Toddster’s favorite movie franchises is back and is now available on Blu Ray. We join Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) and Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) as they become partners. Murtaugh is a older by the book cop close to retirement while Riggs is close to the edge after losing his wife and now no one is sure what he has left to offer the department. They are teamed up to stop a drug ring that’s close to pulling off one of their biggest deals and Murtaugh has an old friends that contacts him to figure out why a young girl is killed linked to this rings’ activities. Can they get to the bottom of the case before they kill each other or get killed themselves? Pick up the collection that also includes “Lethal Weapon 2,””Lethal Weapon 3” and “Lethal Weapon 4.”

Now in Theaters

Men in Black 3 - Partners never have it easy. Just ask Agent J (Will Smith). J was recruited to become one of the Men in Black. They police alien activity on Earth, keep the Earth safe from any nasty aliens wanting to hurt us, and also have to keep the public from knowing about it. Along with his partner Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones). Their latest case they are working on has to do with the escape of “Boris the Animal (Jemaine Clement)” (or just Boris). It seems Boris is an old enemy of J’s that he put away 40 years ago and now Boris has made his way into the past where he makes sure that Agent K gets killed. J is the only one who can remember that J even existed. He follows Boris into the past to team up with a young Agent K (Josh Brolin). Will they be able to work together and stop Boris before he can take down K?
The Toddster’s Take - I didn’t enjoy this one as much as I would’ve liked to. I really thought Josh Brolin really stole the movie and added a lot of freshness to Men in Black which is the one of the things that really saved this movie. The aliens were played down a lot so they could focus on the back story of Agent K and a connection to Will Smith’s character. This was the only other thing that made this movie remotely likeable. If you’re a Will Smith fan, you might like it. I’ve seen better from him.

We told you that the Toddster has been keeping busy. I’m going to catch “Snow White and the Huntsman” and this one looks good. Out teamup is also just up the road with the crew busy at work trying to come up with another good one. Before we go, we just wanted to salute all the men and women who fight for this country to keep us safe and for the ones who have lost their lives in the fight for freedom. Better late than never! The Toddster will return next time.
