Gents’ Club Seven performs for Monday Evening Musical Club
NORWICH – The Monday Evening Musical Club will present its final program of the season on Monday, June 4 at 7:30 p.m. The free concert will take place at United Church of Christ, 11 W. Main St. in Norwich and will feature the popular Gents’ Club Seven, playing New Orleans as well as Chicago Style jazz, swing jazz, polkas and other crowd-pleasing styles.
The Gents’ Club Seven has been an active band since 1992, performing throughout central New York. Trombonist Henry Carpenter is a retired music educator from the New Berlin CSD and has been with the group since its inception. A. James Meckley III of Vestal plays clarinet and alto saxophone, and is a retired music teacher from the Newark Valley CSD. The band’s newest member is Andrew Wolin, a private music teacher in Binghamton. He plays tenor and soprano saxophones. Lawrence Glover of Port Crane is the tuba player and is one of the founding members of the group. He is the band director at Hancock CSD. Ken Whitney of Greene is the drum set player, a private music teacher, and a recent inductee into the New York State Country Music Hall of Fame. Ken is also one of the original members of the band. John Sininger, also of Greene, is the cornet player and band leader of the Gents’ Club Seven.
As always, Monday Evening Musical Club programs are free and all are welcome to share this great evening of jazz-and more. The Monday Evening Musical Club accepts free will donations at each of its programs. These donations go directly into the Club’s scholarship funds, which are open to all Chenango County HS students planning to pursue a college music major. A reception will follow the program, so concertgoers have the opportunity to meet the musicians.
