Pa. woman killed in Afton motorcycle accident
AFTON – The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office investigated a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 12:07 p.m. Monday. The crash occurred on Main Street in the Village of Afton. A 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle being operated by David Halabura, age 50, from Orwigsburg, Pa. crossed the roadway and struck a house. A passenger on the motorcycle, Halabura’s wife, Suzette Halabura, age 49, was killed in the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Chenango County Medical Examiner. David Halabura was transported to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City for treatment of facial injuries. Both riders were wearing helmets.
The Halaburas were riding with other motorcycles and were en route to Americade in Lake George. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Village of Afton Police Department, the Afton Fire Department, and CMT Ambulance service.
