Section IV sixth at state golf tournament
ITHACA – Section XIII claimed a two-shot victory over runner-up Section III at the state high school golf championship at Cornell University Golf Course Monday afternoon.
Section IV placed sixth out of 11 teams, 28 shots off the winning team score. Norwich senior Eric Walling had rounds of 86 and 84 over the two-day tournament, the latter score coming yesterday.
Section III’s Derek Bard of New Hartford won the overall medalist title on the strength of his three-under-par 69 Monday to finish his two days at one-under-par. Last year’s individual champion, Gavin Hall, a junior from Section V, was unable to defend his title due to injury.
