First career hole-in-one for Chirlin
PLYMOUTH – Retired Norwich High School Social Studies teacher Don Chirlin understands the significance of the date June 6 better than most – the Allied troops’ landings on Normandy during World War II, commonly known as D-Day.
On the 68th anniversary of that historic military maneuver, Chirlin made a little of history for himself Wednesday morning at Canasawacta Country Club. Chirlin recorded the course’s third hole-in-one of the 2012 season and the first in his long affiliation with the game of golf. Playing with regular partner, John Pluta, also a retired Norwich High Social Studies teacher and administrator, Chirlin used a 7-iron to drain his tee shot on the 130-yard second hole. Chirlin went on to shoot an 84.
