DVD Patrol
Here we are, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol has been busy shopping taking a look at some DVDS and the Toddster has been on a roll taking a look at even more movies. I got to see “Snow White and the Huntsman” this week. See the review later in the column and you’ll see what we mean. Time to see what they’re selling.
New on DVD
Safe House - Even good guys seem to go bad sometimes. Tobin Frost (Denzel Washington) was one of the best agents the CIA has working for them until he went rogue and started selling secrets to the higher bidder. Now he’s been caught and brought to Matt Weston (Ryan Reynolds) who runs a safe house that the CIA needs anytime they need something done. Matt is about to be put to the test after mercenaries break in and want to take Frost down. Matt tries to report to his superiors to let them know what’s happening but he’s not sure who to trust. The only thing he can do now is keep Frost alive long enough to find the truth. Will Matt find someone to trust or is the man who went bad the only one he can trust when it’s all said and done? Another great movie just out on DVD is “Act of Valor” that show what Navy Seals and actual military men have to do to keep our country safe. This movie has real active duty military personnel starring in it so see what you think.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island - Going on a trip back to the same place isn’t always a bad thing. Even different parts of it are interesting. Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson) always liked a good mystery and he receives a signal from someplace in the pacific that his maps say there is no island. He manages to convince his stepdad Hank (Dwayne Johnson) to take him on a trip to find something where there shouldn’t be. Ellisting the aid of a wild helicopter pilot (Luiz Guzman) and his daughter Kailani (Vanessa Hudgens). They lose their ride but find the strange island and the source of the mysterious signal with Sean’s Grandfather (Micheal Caine) waiting for them. Are they going to find a way back home? Johnson will be seen in “GI Joe: Retaliation” coming out in March 2013. The release date changed but those things happened. Hutcherson will be seen in the sequel to “The Hunger Games” sometime in 2013 and the first one will released later this Summer on DVD August 18. Caine will be in “The Dark Knight Rises” in theaters July 20

Teen Wolf - Good shows always have a way of coming back. Season 1 is here and in the pilot episode, we meet Scott Mccall (Tyler Posey). Scott was just your typical high school kid doing the best he could to survive in the one place that we all found our way into: High School. Scott’s friend Styles (Dylan Obrien) always liked to check out what his sheriff dad was looking at and he manages to convince Scott to come with him to check out the latest case of a mysterious body being found in the woods. The two friends go into the woods and decide to split up to find it. Scott gets attacked by some type of animal and that’s when things go from strange to very weird. Scott starts to go through “changes.” Not all of them are too bad. He meets Allison (Crystal Reed) and his luck starts to get better. The changes start to get dangerous and Scott feels the effects under a full moon that show him he’s becoming a werewolf. With the help of the visitor from the woods Derek (Tyler Hoechlin) and Styles, will Scott be able to get a handle on his new powers and life ? Season 2 can be seen on Mondays at 10 p.m. airing on MTV.

Snow White and the Huntsman - Old stories never seem to go out of style. Snow White (Kristin Stewart) was the princess that everyone always loved. Her life changes after her Mother passes away. Her Father is not sure how he will go on and this is when his kingdom is attacked by a dark army that no one sees coming. The King and his men find a way to beat them. At the end of the battle, they find a woman named Revenna (Charlize Theron) who had been taken prisoner. He brings her back to his castle and she manages to fill the void that his wife held for so long. Some time later, the King decides to marry her and this is when change come a bit too fast. Revenna, it seems, was the leader of the strange army and has many dark powers. She kills the king and imprisons Snow White for many years in a dark tower. Darkness falls over the kingdom and Revenna rules the people with an iron fist and preys on the most beautiful women to keep herself young. Snow White finds a way to escape and runs to the Dark Forest where the Queen has no power. She hires a down on his luck Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) to go and find her. He finds her but there are others who have plans for her. Will Snow White and the Huntsman come to an understanding and find justice over Queen Revenna?
The Toddster’s Take - I love a new take on an old story. If you think this the old “Disney” version of Snow White, you’ll be wrong. The filmmakers take some liberties with the story but keep to the same basics that we all know. Adding the Huntsman was a nice touch. Theron as the evil queen was just plain scary and she is so good she really makes you hate her. Stewart was surprising and she brought an innocence to her character and shows the strength later that she’ll need to beat her if she can. Hemsworth plays the typical hero that we know will find a way to win but he’s always good. A fun ride and I definitely think you should see this.
The Toddster has one more movie in mind for this coming week. “Prometheus” is coming to theaters with Charlize Theron, Michael Fessbender and Noomi Rapace. I hear they have to fight a certain type of alien (hint, hint). Even I need a good scare once in a while. Until next time, the Toddster shall be back.
