Chenango Community Forum discusses taxes
NORWICH – The local discussion group, Chenango Community Forum, extends an open invitation to the general public to attend the next monthly gathering on Wednesday evening, June 13 at 6:30 at the Guernsey Memorial Library on Court Street. in Norwich.
Recognizing the very polarized world in which we live, a group of concerned citizens has established the Community Forum as “a place for civil conversations about controversial issues.”
In recent years there has been a frequent refrain in our public discourse that all taxes are bad, and there is no such thing as a good tax. Yet, according to former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes more than a century ago, “Taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society.”
The Forum organizing committee is please to announce that William Craine, Chenango County Treasurer, will be speaking on the the topic of “Taxes: Where’s the Value?” Craine brings a number of years of experience in both private business and local government to his current position.
