For some odd reason, I’ve been having a lot of discussions with people about dream jobs recently.
Personally, I love what I’m doing and have formed some fairly ambitious goals about improving my situation, but that’s for another time.
However, I think everyone can admit, no matter how much you love your job, there’s still always that “dream job.” You know, the job where you get paid to essentially do what you do when you go home from your real job.
More often than not, the reality is that trying to start up that perfect business would be harder than it’s worth or, if started, the economy would not sustain your job of choice.
This got me thinking ... what are MY dream jobs? And, most importantly, how realistic are they?
To start off, did anyone know there is such a thing as a professional TV watcher?
Seriously. If you watch any shows that feature clips from other shows, you’ll know what I’m talking about. The Daily Show, The Soup, etc. They all show the funniest, strangest, or most ridiculous things found on TV and someone needs to find those clips.
Now, this seems like it would be a fantastic job, but not only is it a very limited profession, it probably isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
I mean, most of the great clips you see on that show are from shows that I would never want to watch. EVER.
Jersey Shore? The Bachelor? FOX News? Yuck.
So unless they come up with a show that features the coolest scenes from HBO and Showtime, count me out.
Personally, I think party planner or event organizer would also be a great job. I’ve always enjoyed throwing little shindigs for friends and family, and I think I’m pretty good at it.
This may seem odd to anyone who knows me as organization isn’t really my thing. But when it comes to helping people have a fun time, I’m somehow more on my game.
The downside is that for larger events and parties this can get fairly difficult. My friend and I threw a party in Missouri once that drew a crowd of nearly 300 and the amount of effort it took to keep the walls from falling off the house was monumental.
I think I’ll stick with small gatherings for now.
Finally, I have always dreamed of owning a bar.
I really think this is the most realistic of the lot as all it would take is a small business loan and some hard work.
In my opinion, that hard work would pay off in the form of providing a comfortable environment where people can meet after work and wind down from their terrible jobs and tell me how much they would like mine.
Yeah, I could get used to that.
