DVD Patrol
Everyone likes a good scare, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol offers another review as well as some more DVDs just for you. Our teamup is just around the corner too. The Toddster has really been on a roll seeing a lot of movies, including “Prometheus.” It’s time to see what we see.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - Every hero needs a good villain. For Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.), this couldn’t be more true. Holmes’s partner Dr. Watson (Jude Law) has been targeted by Professor James Moriarty (Jared Harris) because Holmes has started to get a bit too close to what Moriarty has been working on. Watson gets married and leaves on his honeymoon. Holmes discovers this and goes after his friend to make sure nothing happens. This leads Watson and Holmes on a wild chase through Europe to finally find out just what Moriarty has been up to. Will the two partners be able to stop the criminal mastermind before he’s able to reveal his master plan? My sources tell me that a third Sherlock Holmes is already being planned. Also, Downey has already started to work on “Iron Man 3” and set for release some time in 2013.
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance - Being a hero can take its toll on the best ones. Johnny Blaze (Nicholas Cage) sold his soul to save his father and everything seemed fine at first. You have to be sure to read the fine print of the contract because his father later gets into an accident and passes away. Johnny has to honor the contract and now becomes the Ghost Rider. Whenever evil preys on the innocent, Johnny becomes the rider to stop the evil. Some years go by and Johnny has been the rider for awhile. A member of an holy order approaches him to offer him a chance to lift his curse but he has to find and protect a young boy who has been chosen to become the next vessel of the Devil. He’s able to do this and the order keeps their promise. The people after the boy find him and now Johnny has to find a way to get his powers back. Can Johnny save the boy before it’s too late? My sources tell me that Cage has several projects in the works including another “National Treasure.” Stay tuned!

Superman vs. The Elite - Cartoon Spotlight is here with an all new adventure for the Man of Steel. Superman’s fight for justice has always been pretty straight forward for him. He’s always known how to handle fighting crime and has always known how to handle the bad guys. That comes into question when a new crimefighting team calling themselves “The Elite”shows up dispensing justice by any means necessary and killing doesn’t bother them either. There has been a line that Superman would never cross and that is the one. They question whether it’s time for Superman to retire. Superman even starts to question his own methods that it might be time for him to step down. Is Superman going to be able to find the strength to reassure himself that what he does is still right and find a way to stop the Elite too? A new DVD of “The Dark Knight Returns” comes out in the Fall and will be featured in a future patrol.

Prometheus - Sometimes in the search for knowledge, the answers you want might not be the ones you want to find. Dr. Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and Charlie Holloway (Logan Marshall Green) have been all over the world searching for answers for where mankind has come from. They find evidence in every culture that leads them to believe that the answers lead towards the stars. Peter Weyland (Guy Pierce) offers them a chance on his ship “The Prometheus.” Four years later, the leader of the voyage Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron) and her crew find a planet that may hold their answers. Once they land, their discoveries start to go very bad with the alien relics they find an android (Michael Fassbender) who also an agenda of his own. Will the crew find what they want and make it out alive?
The Toddster’s Take - The Toddster always likes a good scare. This wasn’t it. The movie, I found, to be very predictable and seemed like a typical Alien movie. The only thing even remotely good about the movie was the actors’ performances. Rapace and Fassbender were good and Theron brought off an OK job. She was a lot better in “Snow White.” Director Ridley Scott’s return to science fiction left a lot to be desired. I wasn’t impressed, but see what you think.
Looks like July will be a busy month for movies too. A little bit of June is left and we’ll see what is left. Have a good one and the Toddster will be back with the team next time.
