NORWICH – While some fathers enjoy a typical outing of golf or new power tools for Father’s Day, the Northeast Classic Car Museum is offering something a little different to help celebrate dads when it opens its doors on Sunday.
In keeping with an annual tradition, the car museum is once again celebrating Father’s Day with giveaways, discounts, and plenty more to recognize fathers in the area.
“This is one of our more highly visible weekends,” said Museum Director Marc Michaels. “It’s a great way for families to treat their dads to something special. It’s a chance for dads of all ages from 25-95 to relive some of their past or see some things they are interested in.”
In addition to offering a free vintage-style photograph in its 1926 Model-T Ford with paid admission, the museum is giving a 10 percent discount coupon to buy dad a little something in the museum gift shop for the last-minute shopper.
Adding to the Father’s Day tradition, Doug’s Holy Smoke Barbecue and Gilligan’s Island will spend the day outside the museum, serving their specialties for families to dine on in a picnic area on the museum’s front lawn (or in the museum’s event area in the case of rain). The food vendors and picnic area will be available to the general public as well as museum visitors.
“It’s an added bonus to have barbecue done right here,” Michaels said. “It’s like a one-stop shop for Dad on Father’s Day.”
NECCM is also awarding a museum membership to one winner. Entry forms will be available in the lobby on Father’s Day. No purchase or admission are necessary to enter the drawing.
Museum visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy more than 170 vehicles on display, as well as videos, period fashions, airplane engines and the newest exhibit – the Crystal Collection – that opened for the first time in May. More information about the museum can be found at classiccarmuseum.org or by calling 334-2886.
The Bullthistle Model Railroad Museum will also be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This museum is located just across the street from NECCM and features several model train layouts, as well as historical information on railroads.
