A new leader for the BSA Chenango District

CHENANGO FORKS – The Boy Scouts of America Baden-Powell Council has hired Afton native Brittany Hulbert as the new Chenango District Executive.
Hulbert, 23, graduated from Maryland College in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts and Environmental Studies.
In the fall of 2009, she participated in a Chesapeake Bay Regional Studies program, which gave her the opportunity to study the Bay area and its environmental issues.
She has also participated in the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy, volunteered for the Humane Society, was a member of numerous groups at Maryland College including Habitat for Humanity, and was a site manager for the Maryland wood duck initiative.
“I’m very thankful to have been offered the position,” she said. “And I’m so excited to get moving forward with my district this year and the years to come.”
Hulbert explained that her whole family lives in the area and she had looked foward to returning. The position with the Boy Scouts of America was a welcome opportunity, she said.
“With the BSA’s appreciation for nature and the work they do outside it is well related to my degree,” said Hulbert.
Hulbert’s timing is fortuitous for the district as they prepare for a multitude of summer programs including Cub Scout day camp at Bowman Lake from July 23-27.
The theme of this year’s camp is the “Wild West” and participants will enjoy a multitude of events such as fishing, field sports and games, hiking, water games and science/nature classes.
“I really want to touch base with the volunteers and leaders who do so much for the scouts,” said Hulbert. “We always want more volunteers and I think it’s really important to be on a relatable level.”
