Hanna defeats Earlville challenger

NORWICH – U.S. Rep. Richard Hanna defeated his Republican primary challenger, Michael Kicinski, on Tuesday.

District-wide, Hanna received 9,806 votes to Kicinski's 4,069.

The Chenango County Board of Elections finished entering memory cards, or smart cards, from the polls at 11 p.m. While it wasn’t a good turnout locally, Republican Commissioner Harriet Jenkins said, Hanna unofficially received 54 percent of the vote to Kicinski’s 45.5 percent. There were two write-ins.

Jenkins said a lot of people came to the polls hoping to vote for a candidate for Chenango County judge. She blamed the state’s election’s schedule for the confusion.
