Seward announces re-election bid

ONEONTA – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) has filed more than 4,400 signatures on nominating petitions for re-election as state senator representing the 51st senatorial district.
“I am truly humbled and energized by the outpouring of support I have received for my candidacy,” said Seward. “As I meet with people from across the nine county district I am excited to hear the widespread level of support- it is the enthusiastic encouragement from constituents that keeps me going.”
Seward filed 3,299 signatures for the Republican party nomination, more than three times the required number; 740 for the Independence party nod and 386 for the Conservative party designation.
“New York state is headed in the right direction thanks in large part to an end to Albany dysfunction and a new synergy at the Capitol. But I’d be the first to say there’s more to be done,” Seward said. “Under one party rule from 2009-2010, the state was treated to skyrocketing taxes, reckless government spending and private sector job loss. A change in senate leadership in 2010 helped turn the corner and the list of our accomplishments over the last two years is significant.
“Working in a bi-partisan fashion we have produced back to back on time state budgets that cut state spending, rejected new taxes and borrowing, and closed $13 billion in budget gaps. We enacted a historic property tax cap to make it easier for families to afford the American dream of home ownership and help senior citizens on a fixed income stay in their homes. We passed a $3.3 billion middle class tax cut that brings the tax rates to the lowest level in 58 years.”
“New York is moving in the right direction. Concepts I endorse like job creation, property tax relief and government restraint are once again advancing in Albany. I look forward to continuing to partner with local officials, community leaders and residents as we work together to foster additional growth and meet the needs of those who live and work here in our part of upstate New York,” Seward concluded.
