New Berlin hosts annual Quilt Show this weekend
NEW BERLIN – The Village of New Berlin will host its 10th annual Outdoor Quilt Show Saturday, kicking things off at 9:30 a.m. with the always popular Quilt Show Parade – setting out from the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church – and featuring a wide variety of vendors and activities.
The event has steadily expanded over the past decade and will include the Indoor Quilt Show, also held at St. Theresa’s, the New Berlin Mini-Barn Art Walk, a bike safety program offered by the New Berlin Police Department, a 4-H Petting Zoo at Hyde Park, the Alzheimer’s Quilt Challenge, a quilt raffle to benefit Relay For Life, a variety of craft and food vendors, a hay ride, quilts made by members of the New Berlin Quilt Show Committee and a performance by the Smyrna Citizens’ Band.
“We’re having fun with it,” said New Berlin Quilt Show Committee member Lynne Walton. “There’s a little bit of something for everyone to enjoy, all day long. Basically, this benefits the town and promotes tourism in New Berlin, highlighting some of the local talent.”
In addition, this year’s Quilt Show will once again include the Quilt Decorating Contest, which gives village residents an opportunity to participate in the yearly event. Those attending the Quilt Show will vote for their favorite porch or yard quilt display, and cash prizes will be awarded for first and second place, as well as the Mayor’s Choice award, at 3:30 p.m.
