DVD Patrol

We’re back, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol has been on hiatus for the last few weeks because yours truly, the Toddster, has been nursing a broken arm, but I’ve been keeping on top of a few things here and there. I even managed to catch a certain wall crawler in action. This column features one full of heroes. Let’s take a look to see what we’ve got.

New on DVD

The Three Stooges - Heroes and friendship come in all kinds of crazy combinations. Especially where these guys are concerned. Larry (Sean Hayes), Curly (Will Sasso), and Moe (Chris Dimtopoulos) were all left at Mother Superior’s (Jane Lynch) orphanage. Even though Moe seems to beat up his two friends a lot, they are really great friends and they’ll have to be. The guys will have to pull it together to be able to save their home from being sold. Our heroes go through a series of crazy events to see what can be done. Are they going to be able to save it? Lynch will be returning in the fall with another season of “Glee” airing on Fox on Tuesdays.

Lockout - There are always heroes who work behind the scenes to make the world a better place. Emily Wornock (Maggie Grace) has always tried to do her part to help people. She decides to start out in a big way by making her way to the biggest prison in the world that happens to be 50 miles in an orbiting space station with the Earth’s worst criminals kept in cold storage. Emily is also the President’s daughter. Now something goes wrong that frees all the prisoners. The President has no choice but to send in the one man he knows that can get the job done. A rogue government named Snow (Guy Pearce) is her only chance to make it out alive. Will Emily and Snow make it out alive? Grace teams up with Liam Neeson for “Taken 2” coming to theaters in the Fall.

Also on DVD

Wrath of the Titans - A hero’s mission is never done. Perseus (Sam Worthington) saved the Earth from the Krakken and went on to live with his wife and son. Zeus (Liam Neeson) comes to ask Perseus for his help once again because Hades (Ralph Fiennes) and Ares (Edgar Ramirez) have decided to free the beings that brought the Gods into the world in the first place, the Titans. Perseus doesn’t want to have anything to do with Zeus because he has already done his time. Later, Zeus does his best going it alone but is taken hostage and now Perseus has to recruit other demigods to go into the Underworld to rescue his Father. Can they do it and take down the Titans in time? Sources inform me that James Cameron and Worthington are getting ready to work on the “Avatar” sequels.

Now in Theaters

The Amazing Spider Man - Stories for heroes are always changing. Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) was a gifted student who went to live with his aunt and uncle after his parents disappear. Years later, Peter runs across an old briefcase of his Dad’s and discovers a old formula that he was working on that an old colleague has been trying to crack. Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans) meets Peter and gives him the grand tour of his lab. Peter finds his way through the lab, meeting pretty science student Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) and one more little surprise of the eight legged kind. This gives Peter powers he couldn’t even dream of. His life changes and Connors uses the formula to grow himself a brand new arm and the side effects turn him into a giant lizard. Now Peter has to find a way to stop him. Will Peter be able to use his new powers to stop Connors?
The Toddster’s Take - If you like Spider Man, you will like this movie. I’m pretty much old school. Changing the story around is never a bad thing but when you’ve been reading comic books as long as I have, change isn’t always a good thing. Garfield was fine and I’m sure he’ll have a few sequels under his belt. The special effects were good and the rest of the cast was terrific. Bottom line: if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.
This one seemed to have a lot of heroes in it this time. Speaking of heroes, we’ll be checking out the new Batman movie “The Dark Knight Rises.” The Toddster will be checking it out and reviewing it right here next week. Until next week, the Toddster will be back (Honest!).
