Chenango United Way seeks funding applications

NORWICH – The United Way of Chenango County is calling on area non-profit organizations to submit an application for funding if seeking support in 2013.
Funding proposals are due by noon on Oct. 11. All applicants are required to attend an informational group session in order to submit a proposal. The last group session offered takes place at 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 24 at the Chenango United Way Conference Room, 27 West Main St., Norwich.
“We really want to make sure that the whole community knows that this is an open funding process,” said Chenango United Way Director Elizabeth Monaco. “There are a lot of organizations that apply every year ... I feel optimistic that we’ll be able to fund more than we have in the past few years,” she added.
Funding requests are to be no less than $1,500, with a maximum amount not to exceed $25,000. Requests to support building or capital projects or fundraising ventures – including galas, races and competitions – will not be accepted. All funding applications will be reviewed by CUW board members and volunteer community representatives between Oct. 26 and Nov. 30. Final allocation decisions will be made by mid December and initial decisions will be announced on Jan. 1, 2013. Actual allocation decisions will not be announced until mid January, after the campaign is finalized.
Last year, the CUW raised $426,046, falling just short of its 2011 campaign goal of $440,000. The agency provided funding to 19 local community programs and 13 soup kitchens and food pantries that focused on the three community impact areas it recognizes: Education, income and health. The bar has been raised for this year’s campaign, said Monaco, with the agency setting its sights on meeting a $444,000 goal before year’s end. The campaign kicks-off with the Day of Caring event on Saturday, September 22.
The complete proposal funding process can be found on the CUW website, chenangouw.org. Additional information is available by calling 334-8815.
