Mistakes cost UV in league title game

ONEONTA – In its only loss during the regular season, Unadilla Valley yielded nearly double-digit walks. Tuesday in the Otsenango Pony League title game, UV committed nearly double-digit errors. The consequence of those mistakes was a defeat to hometown Oneonta at Neahwa Park.

The Jackets, who finished 13-0 on the season, took advantage of six Unadilla Valley errors in the bottom of the third to expand their lead to 9-0 en route to an 11-4 victory. Winning pitcher Brock Eichler was 4-for-4 with two runs scored, and first baseman Devon Sobers had an RBI single in the second, and ripped a two-run single to right center in the third that padded the Oneonta advantage.

Eichler led off the second with a double to right field, and he scored on Bennett Eggler’s single. An error on Tyler Tremaine’s groundball to third base scored the second run, and Sobers’ one-bagger upped the advantage to three.
