Three remanded, one pleads not guilty in county court

NORWICH – Five people charged with a variety of felony and misdemeanor crimes appeared in county court Monday; one was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $100,000 cash bail.
• Chad D. Walters, 31, address unavailable, was remanded to the county jail on $100,000 cash bail following an incident in early July. Walters is accused of violating an order of protection – issued by Chenango County Court – when he was allegedly sighted in the Adirondack region camping with his three children and their mother, the subjects named in the order of protection. He faces additional criminal charges for letters he is accused of writing to his daughters and their mother, and will re-appear in court at a later date.
In July, Walters was indicted on charges of first degree rape, a class B violent felony, third degree rape, a class E felony, second degree sexual abuse, a class A misdemeanor and second degree menacing, a class A misdemeanor.
Judge W. Howard Sullivan reminded Walters that – if he should post bail – the order of protection remains in effect.
• Savannah M. Collins, 25 – also known as Savannah M. Gallo – Norwich, was arrested on an active warrant and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility after allegedly violating the terms of her probation.
In February, Collins was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of a child, all class A misdemeanors, as well as unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
The endangering charge was the result of an unreleased number of children also living with Collins at the time of her arrest.
• Jennifer Alvarez, 33, Norwich, pleaded not guilty to one count of fourth degree grand larceny, a class E felony.
It’s alleged that Alvarez, on or about April 26, unlawfully entered a Town of Norwich business, stealing an undisclosed amount of cash.
Since April, Alvarez has been charged with a number of crimes, including unlawful possession of marijuana; second degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle; second degree criminal trespass; and violating the terms of her probation.
• Jeremy Q. Decker, 25, Bainbridge, was sentenced to five years probation after admitting earlier this month he had violated the terms of his previous probationary sentence.
It’s alleged that Decker – a registered sex offender in the state of New York – travelled outside the county on two separate occasions, had contact with children under the age of 18 and accessed the Internet without first registering with his probation officer, all violations of his probation.
In May of 2011, Decker pleaded guilty to first degree sexual abuse – a class D violent felony – after he allegedly had sexual contact with a child under the age of eleven.
• Vanessa Sue Furgison, 24, Norwich, was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility and will appear in court at a later date.
In April, Furgison was arrested on an active bench warrant issued by the Chenango County Court.
