66th Otsego Fair opens in Morris

MORRIS – The 66th Annual Otsego County Fair opened Tuesday at the fairgrounds in Morris for the “Best Six Days of Summer.” There will be free entertainment throughout fair week as well as special grandstand events at a minimal charge. True to the country fair tradition, there will be animal shows and agricultural exhibits. Of special interest to the younger fairgoers will be the rides and games on the midway by Gillette Shows and plenty of food to eat.
The 43rd season of the Gillette Shows carnival rides at Morris will be open daily at noon with pay one price rides on Wednesday from 5 to 10 p.m., Thursday from noon to 5 p.m., Friday from 5 to 10 p.m. which is Kids Day with bike giveaway and games and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
Free entertainment every day at the fair includes a range of fun activities. These include Buffalo Barfield Un-herd of Entertainment, Twin Maples Petting Farm, Frogs and Bugs by Jason, Chain Saw Artist Critter Crossing Creations, F & F Productions Hot Dog Pig Racing and a variety of entertainment in the Grange Building.
The Otsego County Federation of Sportsmen’s club exhibit will feature all week long pellet and bow shoot, instruction and safety taught, fly tying demonstrations, fish and taxidermy exhibits and wildlife.
Demonstrations in Flora Hall will be Wednesday and Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m., Friday noon to 4 p.m., and Sunday 2 to 4:30 p.m.
Opening day kicked off Tuesday with a free day sponsored by Community Bank. The fire service and school band parade took place at 7 p.m. sponsored by NY Central Mutual Insurance Co. followed by fireworks at dark sponsored by NBT Bank. The entertainment tent featured the Fritz Polka Band.
Tonight the grandstand will be open tractor pull and the entertainment tent features the Karaoke contest both starting at 7 p.m.
Thursday in the entertainment tent will be Hailey Wiggins at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Honeystruck with Sean Hawkins plus Hypnosis shows at 2 and 10 p.m. The Total Destruction Demolition Derby will be at 7 p.m.
Friday the grandstand event will be an open truck pull at 7 p.m. and the entertainment tent will feature Country Singer Mark Wills at 7 p.m.
Saturday is Agriculture Day with “My Favorite Culinary Delight” Cook off competition begins at 10:30 a.m. in Floral Hall. The annual 4-H Livestock Auction will be held beginning at 3 p.m. The RBF Rodeo will be held at 7 p.m. The entertainment tent will have the Karaoke contest finale beginning at 7 p.m.
Sunday features the Total Destruction Demolition Derby at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. and the Chain Saw Art Auction at 5 p.m.
