Cosy Sheridan at 6OTS this Sunday
OXFORD – Sunday, at 4 p.m., 6 On The Square (6OTS) is presenting a special early performance by “one of the era’s finest and most thoughtful singer/songwriters,” the award winning Cosy Sheridan. With a charming stage presence, an irrepressible wit and an honest soul, this concert will envelope you with delight.
Cosy’s sense of lyricism, dreamy vocals, and masterful guitar work, has made her one of contemporary folk music’s greats. She first caught the attention of national folk audiences in 1992 when she won both the Kerrville Folk Festival’s New Folk Award and The Telluride Bluegrass Festival Troubadour Contest.
Since then she’s released ten CDs, the latest in 2011, The Horse King; she’s written a one-woman-show; and her music has appeared in books and films. She is one of the most respected touring musicians on the folk circuit, appearing everywhere from Carnegie Hall to the Philadelphia Folk Festival.
In addition, for the past 18 years, she has taught classes in songwriting, performance and guitar at workshops and adult music camps across the country such as The Puget Sound Guitar Workshop and The Swannanoa Gathering. In 2008 she co-founded The Moab Folk Camp in southeastern Utah with TR Ritchie.
Her concerts are wide-ranging explorations: modern renditions of mythology (meet Hades the Biker), children’s stories woven into tales of modern adulthood, blues and gospel guitar and love songs for adults. Her alter ego, Chlamydia, often appears with songs such as Botox Tango or Multiply Pierced.
The Cornell Folksong Society wrote: “Sheridan is frank, feisty, sublimely and devilishly funny. She fuses myth with modern culture; Persephone with Botox.”
Sheridan has been touring for twenty years and it’s obvious she’s not slowing down, she’s only getting better. Don’t miss this special Sunday performance! Purchase tickets on-line at the discounted price of $15 (plus $2 service charge) until the date of the performance; $18 at the door. Ticket price for students is always $2; please call to make a student reservation! Doors open one hour prior.
Have a talent? Singers, poetry readers, musicians...the next “Open Mic Night” is Thursday, Aug. 16 (and every third Thursday of each month), at 7:30 p.m. Come to perform or come to listen; it’s always free admission!
