Fair weekend ahead: 165th Chenango County Fair continues Friday, Saturday, Sunday
NORWICH – With much of the fair gone by already, there’s still plenty to do and see at the fairgrounds as the 165th Chenango County Fair continues to dazzle thousands throughout the weekend.
Things get underway Friday afternoon when the fair celebrates 4-H and all things agriculture in Chenango County. At 7 p.m., the Sundown Band takes center stage at the entertainment tent while at the same time, it’s all about horses at the grandstand when Equine Extravaganza gallops onto the pulling tack and the infield. The night ends with a bang as Midnight Madness takes over the midway. From 9-11 p.m., riders can purchase wristbands for $20, allowing full access to all rides until the early hours of the morning. Wrist bands will be good until things wind down at 1 a.m.
The excitement picks right back up again Saturday, Children’s Day and Armed Forces Day at the fair. Kids under the age of 12 get free admittance until 5 p.m. The day kicks-off with an open horse show at 8 a.m., followed by the antique tractor pull at 9. Also at 9, garden tractors go head to head during the garden tractor pull. At 5 p.m., the Children’s Day Bicycle Drawing – the second since the fair opened – will award one lucky child a brand-new bike, and the day is finally topped off with one last tractor pull featuring the New York State Tractor Pullers Association at 7 p.m. at the grandstand. For ride lovers, wristbands will again be on sale for $18 from 12-4 p.m. Wristbands will only be good until 6 p.m. on Saturday.
There’s still plenty to do Sunday before the fair pulls out of town. Once again, things start out with an open horse show at 8 a.m. A local favorite returns to the grandstand at 1 p.m. with the first of two demolition derbies during the day. Local musicians Cassidy Lynn and the Sundown Band take the stage starting at 2 p.m. before things finish up with the second demolition derby at 7.
As always, there’s plenty of ongoing fair activities and exhibits throughout the weekend. In keeping with the county fair tradition, hundreds of cows, pigs, chickens, and other farm animals will stay housed in the stables at the west end of the fairgrounds with horse stables on the east end. Additionally, Exhibition Hall will be filled with information, events and exhibits featuring the best Chenango County has to offer.
General admission is $5 for adults, $3 for youth ages 6-12 and free for children five years and under.
