Flanagan Research Center receives more county funds

NORWICH – As anticipated, more county funds were approved for the James S. Flanagan History Research Center on 43 Rexford St. in Norwich.
On Monday, Chenango County supervisors approved an additional $13,830 to build a handicap accessible ramp between the research center and the adjacent Chenango County Historical Society Museum. The money will also go toward the purchase of storage racks and furnishings for a library room, the county historian’s office and a space for the public.
A portion of the amount was used to repay the Chenango County Information Technology Department for equipment and wiring.
Representatives from the CCHS and the historian’s office jointly requested the additional funding. The ramp and concrete work would fulfill the requirements to obtain a certificate of occupancy at the new center.
Chenango County has already committed $100,000 to the estimated $850,000 multi-year project. Funding has also come from private contributions and foundations.
