First Eddie Caputo 5K set for Saturday
NORWICH – Organizers of St. Bartholomew’s Feast Day are preparing to kick the day off with the first-ever Eddie Caputo Memorial 5K Walk/Run to remember the longtime parishioner and devoted community volunteer.
Runners of all ages will take to the start line when the race begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The event starts at St. Bartholomew’s Parish Center, 81 E. Main St. and runs through the city before ending at the finish line back at the Parish Center.
Eddie Caputo, 57, passed away May 16, 2011. As a lifelong resident of Norwich, he became a well known figure in the community for his involvement and for his devotion to St. Bartholomew’s Church. His obituary reads that his “devotion to the church was always blatant, to the point that he continued to work on the interior of St. Batholomew’s until the day he was physically unable to climb a ladder. His deep passion for restoring local churches is also shown by his work at St. Paul’s, Broad Street Methodist, and St. Malachy’s churches.”
