Letter to the Editor: DA’s don’t make good judges
Editor,
Joe McBride ran an ad in last week’s Evening Sun saying he has “prosecuted over 1,500 felonies.” I have no doubt he has, but will that make him a better judge? Wouldn’t that tend to make him partial toward the prosecutor and prejudiced against the defendant? A District Attorney getting a lot of convictions sounds good until you find yourself or your son or daughter or your grandchild the one prosecuted. It is well known that District Attorneys who are elected judge tend to sit in two chairs – one, the Judge’s bench and one at the prosecutor’s table. When there is a choice, as there is this year, there is a better chance of getting a fair judge if you elect a person who hasn’t been a District Attorney.
