Letter to the Editor: Another great season for Music in the Park

Editor,
The mornings are chillier, the evenings are crisp, all of the signs that summer is drawing to a close. Another sign is no more concerts in the park in downtown Sherburne. We have many people to thank for helping to pull this off once again. First we need to thank Sherburne Rotarians for making all of the efforts needed to organize and execute the series. Our club has done this for 23 years and some Rotarians have helped for all of those year. This year we asked for feedback from our audience. One of the responses given several times is to extend the concert season. I will just say that more help is needed if we were to do that.
Early in the planning for the series the groups coming to perform get determined and then we go out to find the money needed to pay for them. Our committee has felt overwhelming support from our local community sponsors and from local foundations. This year our sponsors for the summer included: NBT Bank, David and Dolly Haas, The Mid-York Press, Service Pharmacy, New York Central Mutual Insurance, Sherburne Big M, Gayle Hellert, Bill Tammaro, Burgess and Tedesco Funeral Homes, James F. Taylor and Zachary Wentworth, Attorneys At Law, Bruce Webster, Chobani Greek Yogurt, Chenango County Council of the Arts, Robert C. Smith Foundation, Howard K. Finch Foundation, Harmon’s Painting, The Floral Fantasy and Manpower.
Sherburne-Earlville High School helps early in the season by working on designs for the publicity poster and the cover of the program booklet. Students from Kristian Newman’s computer design class who submitted designs included Abigail Lawrence, Alexis Paul, Caitlin Fleming and Michaela Brown. Rotarians chose to use the designs of Abigail Lawrence for both the poster and the booklet cover.
Community members support the concerts by contributing as patrons. There was a mix-up in the names printed in this year’s booklet and these should be the correct lists. Supporters include: Jane Duquette, Marian Brice, Joyce & Leo Lachapelle ,Don & Jeannette Newman, Audra & Clint Mikalunas, and Virginia Lee. Bronze Patrons included Donald Hall, Wells Fargo Advisors, Walter & Nancy Diamond, Carolyn F. Drake, Charles & Jean Boise, Paul & Frances Del Fuoco, Pam Misch, Mary Kiernan, Skillin’s Jewelers, Howie Sullivan, Edwin Meyer, Del & Betty Law, Jen & Chuck Moore, Kathy Moore, Peggy & Kathy O’Connor, Patricia & Frank Mazzeo Sr.,The Seamstress - Pat Andrews, Dorothy K. Lawrence, Pat Pudney, Dave & Joyce Steward, William Acee, Carole Porter, Rosemary J. Jaytanie, Marilyn Fuller in memory of Aubrey, Top Variety, and Lewis’ Restaurant. Silver Patrons included: Dorothy Craine,Janine Braun, Bagnall Electric - Glen & Debby Bagnall, Dave & Diane Bensley, Bev Dolly, Anthon Industries, Lindoerfer Family, Reed Graphics LLC, The Sherburne News, Doug & Rowena Krum, Irmin A. Mody, Robert & Ruth Ann Cuffney, William Y.W. Au, Thelma Weaver, Skip’s Market, Faulkner Family, In Memory of Vincent & Pauline Santa Marie, Charlie & Terry Mastro, Gayle Hellert, Elissa and Allan Sawyer, and Sherburne - Earlville Teachers Association. Gold Patrons included: McCredy Motors Inc., John & Sheila Briglin, Thurston & Joan Packer, Phil & Robin Leinbach, In Memory of Dick Runyon, Linda and Jim Taylor, Ralph & Brenda Griffiths, Greg & Shelley Fuller, To the Memory of Martha Adams, Pat Snyder & James Williams, Keven & Melanie Simmons, D&D Diner, and Marsha Guzewich & C. Wells Horton.
Other support came in the form of goods and services. Judy’s Diner donated a bag of potatoes each week. Meghan Dushko offered her labor for many of the concerts. Matt Rajczi helped out for the concerts when he was in town. Relatives of Rotarians, including children and grandchildren helped out in various ways. Laurie Harmon set up the shelter box each week and sat at the information table with Diane Jeffrey. It was a good season, and we begin the process of thinking about what groups will come next summer and finding the funding to bring the concerts to you. Please share your thoughts about groups to bring with any Rotarian. We are appreciative of all of the community support that is shown for this Rotary project.
